Hi! My name is DeeDee Ferguson. My health and wellness journey began in 2013 when I was told I might have Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome, a genetic condition for which there is no cure. Even worse, I was told this condition came with a greater than 90% chance of developing cancer somewhere in the digestive tract by the time I was 70. When I mentioned this to my friends, they all laughed and said "Well at this rate, who isn't going to have cancer by the time they're 70?"
Sitting in bed a few nights later, I was contemplating everything I had just learned about my health and the following thought entered my mind: "I don't need to be a victim!" I wasn't exactly sure HOW I was going to avoid being a victim to my genes, but I grabbed onto that thought and never let go.
Since that evening in 2013, I've been making healthier lifestyle changes, including everything from diet to daily meditation, better quality sleep to an entirely new, entrepreneurial career (way less stress) and many more positive changes in between! Things shifted a bit when my mom was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma a few years later. While still focusing on my own health, I also began offering wellness tips to my parents and anyone else who would listen, culminating in the launch of Connect4Hope. What started out as a website to share other people's stories of healing from "incurable" diseases has now morphed into a full-fledged health and wellness mission made possible by my health coaching certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
Now I'm helping others realize they don't need to be victims of poor genes or an unfavorable health diagnosis either! Each of us is the CEO of our own bodies and our own health. We get to choose whether we want to continue on the path we're currently on or switch to a different path, perhaps one less traveled, but with a better destination than we could have ever imagined. I'm excited to help and support you on your journey of optimal health and wellness!
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
